CULTURE

This low maintenance needled evergreen grows well in medium moisture, well-drained soils in part shade to full sun.

 

NOTEWORTHY CHARACTERISTICS

Native to Japan, it can grow anywhere from 50-75’ tall. With aromatic foliage when crushed, it features dark green scale-like leaves with an underside of white markings.

 

PROBLEMS

Susceptible to juniper blight, root rot, and pests such as bagworms but other than that no serious insect or disease problems.

 

GARDEN USES

Dwarf varieties such as this one are planted together as hedges, screens, and used as accents in rock gardens.
